Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 29, 2026
Overview
BookFlix ("we," "our," or "us") is an immersive reading companion for iOS. We built BookFlix because we love books — not your data. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it. We keep things simple: we collect only what is necessary to run the app, and we never sell your personal information to anyone.
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
Account Information
When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from that provider. We use this to create and identify your BookFlix account. We do not see or store your Google or Apple password.
Library & Reading Data
Books you add to your shelf, reading progress, highlights, notes, and reading sessions are stored in your account so they sync across your devices.
Camera
If you use the barcode scanner to add a book by ISBN, BookFlix briefly accesses your camera. Images captured during scanning are processed on-device and are never uploaded to our servers.
Notification Tokens
If you allow push notifications, we store a device token to deliver reading reminders and book-club alerts. You can revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Purchase Information
Subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We receive confirmation that a purchase was made and its entitlement level — we never see your payment card or billing details.
How We Use Your Information
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure
- Sync your library and reading progress across devices
- Deliver push notifications you have opted into
- Provide AI-powered book recommendations and scene generation
- Restore your purchases and manage your subscription
- Respond to support requests you send us
We do not use your data to build advertising profiles or sell it to data brokers.
Third-Party Services
BookFlix uses a small set of trusted third-party services to operate:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, cloud database, and push notification delivery. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Books API — book metadata, covers, and descriptions. No personal data is sent in these requests.
- Sign in with Apple / Google — identity providers for account creation. Each is governed by their respective privacy policies.
- Apple In-App Purchase — all payment processing. Apple's privacy policy applies to payment data.
Data Retention
Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days. Reading data stored locally on your device is deleted when you uninstall the app.
Your Rights & Choices
- Access & Portability — email us to request a copy of your data.
- Deletion — you can delete your account from inside the app or by contacting us.
- Notifications — disable push notifications any time in iOS Settings → BookFlix.
- Camera — revoke camera access any time in iOS Settings → BookFlix.
Children's Privacy
BookFlix is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Security
We use industry-standard measures — encrypted connections (TLS), Firebase security rules, and limited staff access — to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard what you share with us.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the effective date above and notify you inside the app before the changes take effect. Continued use of BookFlix after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
